Frankfurt puts in a strong cargo performance
Frankfurt’s cargo throughput includes both air freight as well as airmail. It has climbed by a whopping 5.3% year-on-year this year. In terms of weight, this was nearly 1.1 million tonnes. This was in the first six months of the current business year and was stated by airport operator Fraport in its report, which was published on 3 August 2017.
Frankfurt happens to be Europe's busiest cargo hub and trends show that the cargo traffic continued its growth right from the second half of 2016. This has been in line with German economic growth.
Fraport’s group revenue rose 10.7% year on year. This was mainly owing to the back strong passenger growth and also from the higher revenue from property sales. Frankfurt Airport served 30m passengers in the first half of the current year. This is a new historic record and exceeds the previous year's level by 4.5%.
Growth has also come in from the group's Greek arm. This had started operations on April 11, 2017, and its Lima Airport subsidiary.
Apart from this impressive growth the group earnings (EBITDA and EBIT) both increased markedly by 11.0% to €420 million and by 12.2% to €240.7 million, respectively.
According to the Fraport executive board chairman, Dr Stefan Schulte, they are looking back on a successful first half 2017. He also stated that their business areas have developed well, both at Frankfurt Airport as well as their group airports worldwide.
